In a very short future, we will not have all the fossil fuel based vessels for transporting goods..Therefore ,agriculture will have to be subsistence based and ecologically sustainable.

Red meat is also not good for people with blood pressure.

My dear friend, Dr. Alam.  It is so good to hear from you -- somehow we lost contact and I have been concerned. .  

Red meat is not good for people or the planet in many ways. If we were feeding grain directly to people instead of cycling it through cattle millions more people could be fed. Also it takes 3200 gal of water to get one pound of beef to market -- we simply can no longer afford to raise beef cattle for human consumption. As well, the methane produced from cattle is the number one pollutant today -- even moreso than cars. Red meat is just not an efficient food source.  We must begin to look at the food chain and the kinds of produce we are raising and consuming with an eye to efficiency being the number one consideration for what will be produced.  It cannot be about foods we love to eat and have become addicted to, or what makes money for a few.  It must be about getting us through this crisis -- especially the children for they are our future. 

And, it will, IMHO, be people taking charge at the local level and doing what needs to be done that will create the change that we need to see in our lives.  

As you suggest here, the crises we face in many ways may be our best friend as it will force us to do things we otherwise would not do.  This is the Universal Mind, or God as some prefer to call it, looking out for us when we do not have sense enough to look out for ourselves.
