Dear All,

Unfortunately, I was not able to go, and see
Tony Benn at his Talk in Windsor Parish Church last
Tuesday. He as many of you know is a well respected
socialist champion, and is 82 years of age.
Apparently, he hopes to stand for Parliament again,
and today when this email has been sent to you all he
will be at the Anti-War March in London. Let us hope
this will go well. I expect Peter Challen will
probably be there too.

The reason for this email in the main is to quote what
he said to local reporters in Windsor. He made the
point that though democratic systems are in place
democracy does not rule. He said the following:-

"If you like, the world is run by unelected
bodies...the World Bank, the European Commission, the
International Monetary Fund; all have have huge power
and are not elected. History shows that people have to
struggle to get what they want."

ref The Slough/Windsor Observer, October 5, 2007, page
3.

PS. For our foreign "friends" there is bound to be a
bio on Tony Benn on Wikipedia.. if anyone is
interested.
