Dear Robert,

I am sure many will agree with the idea ..I have to generate a report and I am trying to get as many pages from internet as possible...I am using internet today for the collecting data sets ..Reports form the big report..

Not sure about an unversal agreement of the meaning of "positive progressive" on the issues that are religious.

Dear All,

As we all know John Watkins has been doing
some sterling work to encourage debate on any number
of social, economic, and political issues. He has been
trying to get dialogue going with a number of
representatives from various NGOs and "experts". All
this is fine, and good but I feel that we need to
examine the nature of information, and how best it can
serve the community, and indeed, the world. This may
seem a very basic subject but it is of vital
importance.

I would like to float the notion of reforming this,
and perhaps other like forums. This is the Proposal
for Change:-

There should be a clearinghouse of all known
information concerning social, economic, and political
issues. This could also extend into other subject
areas.

A big problem we have today is information overload.
The question that should be addressed is how to reduce
it to manageable levels but in a way which is both
open,authorative, and objective.

All major AND minor arguments in SIMPLE language for,
and against a specific issue could be presented in the
least number of words, and in two columns making up
the basic debating format. This would require much
editing, and admitedly, expense.

Ofcourse, with the power of the internet information
concerning any issue could be continually monitored,
and updated day by day. There are many sources for
this ofcourse such as newspapers, documentaries,
radio,et al. Naturally enough, anyone could contribute
to it.

The only bias in such a proposal would be the need for
possible POSITIVE PROGRESSIVE solutions that take
humanity forwards. Again pro, and con arguments for
them would be presented in debating format with the
least amount of words possible.

It may well be likely to succcessfully sell much of
the above information to any interested parties
(notably governments in the rich world) because the
data collection would be the most authorative, and
most objective presentation possible.

Moreoever, it would take little time to become an
"instant expert" on say cheap housing, the drug
problem, crime, et cetera. This would cut out a huge
amount of research but ofcourse references to papers,
articles, books, NGO sites, and so on could be listed
per argument for, or against some topic. There would
be a link to such data.

There are other aspects to this proposal to ensure
that it is, and can only be a genuine open system but
with a bias towards positive progressive solutions. I
know what I have been saying seems to be somewhat
ambitious but I do feel there is a need for it.

People must try to think, and understand politics, and
related matter in a greater objective fashion with
less, and less emphasis on blind emotionalism.
Fortunately, education has helped in this process but
there is still a long way to go.

I am sure my above proposal is not totally new, but it
should be seriously considered. It also delves into
the philosophy of language, and other areas of human
understanding.

Free speech is fine but if it is uninformed,
underinformed, or misinformed it can lead to problems.
Clearer, and greater objective thinking is needed.

I am not expect the above to be accepted as the
limiting factor would be the expense for such a
project if it were to be done properly.

Regards,

Robert Searle
