EcoTort,

Your analysis is correct but incomplete. It isn't just "interest,"
which is profit on money, but profit itself, which is a profit on
goods or services.

Just as a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, an error is a
strong as everything that surrounds it.

We could presumably have money without profit, which would make it
easier to trade different "values," but the addition of profit really
complicates things. For centuries Money was a rare commodity (gold
or silver AND stamped by the government,) which meant that there was
less "profit" being created. (Though certainly enough to make
everyone miserable on their scale.)

With the advent of paper money and deficit financing there is now
lots of "money" available in the economy, which means everybody can
engage in profit more easily. This, of course, adds many more weak
links to the chain.

A lie thousands of years old is still a lie, and the truth thousands
of years old is still the truth. The only way the problem can be
fixed is to love your enemy and know virtue, and thus "fix" the
broken link by teaching your enemy virtue and teaching them to love
their enemy, too.

A mountain is only a grain of sand. If you can move one grain, then
you can move a mountain. The challenge is not to change the laws,
but to change people's thinking (and our own.) If you can change
their thinking, then all of the other changes will follow.

People fear to change as much as they desire it. Like the moronic
song by John Mayer "we're waiting on the world to change," he doesn't
see himself as a participant in our troubles, and thinks of himself
only as an innocent bystander.

We can all be better people. A better world is possible only if we
are better. If everybody would divest from the stock market, cancel
insurance policies, and live more frugally (getting out of debt, buy
used, etc.) it would be a start. But the reality is that any change
will eventually create a financial shockwave, so what we need is a
Great Awakening of sorts, otherwise fear will make all these problems
worse. (Fear is the real legacy of 9/11, which was a misguided
attempt to get people to recognize the exact problem you described.)

You are the nation that permits Usury, which has been forbidden by
all the religions. Yet you build your economy and investments on
Usury. As a result of this, in all its different forms and guises,
the Jews have taken control of your economy, through which they have
then taken control of your media, and now control all aspects of your
life making you their servants and achieving their aims at your
expense; precisely what Benjamin Franklin warned you against. - Osama
bin Laden

Of course, Christians, Muslim, Jews and Atheists all behave the same
way regarding money. And therein lies the problem.

peace,

steve
