Dear Urban, and friends,
Please let me know what the L. signifies. Perhaps
I can use it effectively when a more formal tone
of voice is appropriate in an e-mail.
Thanks for the description of your world view.
I'll try to define the missing 3%????? below
your message.

Boy Wes, I know 3% of infinity is still
pretty big, but could you save me some
time in my quest for what the solution
might look like? I'm pretty sure all it
would take is everybody using their
ingenuity to help each other rather
than help themselves, and do it without
having to consume and destroy in ways
that are not renewable sustainable and
inclusive of the great diversity of life &
beauty on the planet.
It is the world of our dreams. Is the map
to get there described in your 3%?????

It is, indeed, the world of our dreams, the dream
of every NGO and grass root organization that
incorporates the word "Justice" in its statement
of purpose. The map to get there is incorporated
in each one of my 833 messages, to the best
of my ability. But there's the rub! As you know,
I am not a credentialed member of the clerisy and
am obliged to rely too much on visual-aids when
my words fail to communicate with my academic
and intellectual superiors who already hold all the
money and power. They see no need for change
nor for communication from the unlettered.
In your previous note of 13 August, you mentioned
"the pall of ignorance that makes us the dupes of
our hidden masters!" That pall of ignorance has
been accumulating in the Old World since "The
Folly Of Rehoboam" in B.C. 975 and in the US
since 1898, when the American Economic
Association abandoned its founder's principles
and became the voice of the hidden masters who
no longer bother to hide. There is no alternative
to their plans and policies, as long as they can divide
the public into factions; religious, political, ethnic,
nationality, level of income, and parenting vs non-
parenting households. We have about a half dozen
factions which claim they were chosen by God to
rule the earth, and as many more who are firmly
of the opinion that none of the chosen ones should
be allowed to achieve their goal. Most of us are of
this latter opinion, I believe. But we lack a common
cause that can rise above our differences and enable
our natural inclination to cooperate more, and compete
less, while we reduce our consumption to a level
sustainable for all future generations.
Human nature and the human life cycle have not
changed significantly over the last ten thousand
years, so I have been told. Messrs. Paine, Franklin,
Jefferson, et al lived in an agrarian society much
like that of Abraham and King Melchizedek of Salem
who operated a school to teach the knowledge
of God (According to the Jewish tradition).
No one should expect that the structure of a
"good society" would change much between
B.C. 1913 and A.C. 1797, when Paine wrote
"Agrarian Justice." So for more than a century,
until industrialization altered the condition of the
work force in the 1890s, the production of wealth
(value added, $/year) in the US economy
exceeded the circulation of money ($ circulated/year)
by 1.2%. As Ken Freeland said of John Booker's
8/7/07 analysis of Biblical history on Dick
Eastman's CHDouglas list:
"Therefore, the "survival" of its modern ersatz
counterpart (Israel) is actually antagonistic to this
classical understanding, which did not change
significantly until the introduction of the Scofield
Bible in the late 19th century. It was all downhill
from there."
True enough, the introduction of the Scofield Bible coincides with "The
Great Transformation" which
author Karl Polanyi described in his 1944 book of
that title, and it has truly been all downhill from there.
But all of these distinguished members of the clerisy
failed to explain the sudden 1895 shift from a
+1.2%/year increase in the value of the dollar to a
-2.3%/year decline in the value of the dollar. When
the American work force left the farm, and became
corporate employees without property, they faced
a labor market in which 4% or more of them are
not competitive because they are burdened by the
expense of debt service on about half of the fixed
cost of human development.
People everywhere, Urban, are resisting the domination
of your "hidden masters," and are striving to achieve
the degree of liberty and justice that Americans
had become accustomed to, but are now slowly
losing because their libraries are full of books
and articles which describe the universe but
omit that 3% of truth which would keep them free.
The Mechanism for Genocide Done Slowly is a
defective performance of the labor market which
results from our failure to fully capitalize, for all
members of society, the expense of human
development. I may have confused the subject
by calling it The Wrong Policy (TWP), but what is
done, is done. The expense of capital development,
on the other hand, has been perfectly capitalized
in the USA, at least since K. Polanyi's "T.G.T." and
the introduction of the Scofield Bible. This I
have called The Optimum Policy (TOP), and may
have again added unnecessary language. In
the old world; the cathedrals, castles, water works,
and pyramids suggest that capital development
was not invented in the USA., But we made it a
science in the US private sector while allowing
our public sector policy to become "structurally
deficient," like our bridges.
Figure 12n.gif tried to summarize this conflict between
the 97% of truth discussed on the Internet and in the
media, and, the whole truth; by pointing to the need
for equality between private fiscal policy and public
fiscal policy. I use the term "fiscal" in the same sense
that Adam Smith used "expense" of governments or
corporations in his First Maxim Of Taxation.
(Page 777 in T.W.O.N.)
The US private sector developed normally and
perfected the practice of industrial management
to enable the wealth and power of the American
Empire, which still gives Europeans a knot in
their knickers. So they send us Ayn Rand,
Austrian Economics, Basic Income Grants,
and several other 97% notions to make sure
American taxpayers never restore the equal
sign on attached Figure 12n.gif.
Urban, your third reply to #832 arrived last night
and provides a most welcome introduction to
the work of Wendell Berry and his focus on the
decentralized local solution as opposed to the
centralized global solution. I'll send this post,
for what it is worth, and work on #834 to show
that global problems become manageable after
we stabilize local labor markets to optimize the
life support system for all of us, rather than
optimize just for the clerisy.
Thanks again L. Urban Kohler, for helping the US copy
what Europe and Japan accomplished in their 1946 to
1970 economic miracles.
Kind regards,
Wes Burt
TOP and TWP are cognoscible by sixth graders from

TOP = 100% Capitalism --- TWP = 0 to 50% Capitalism
