Dear Mu, and Co,
This veil controversy is making a mountain
out of molehill, and a sad reflection yet again about
our society for Muslim, and Non-Muslim.
As far as I understand it....
i) The Koran does NOT insist upon the veil, and more
importantly there is NO clear detailed reference about
it.
ii) The use of the veil is a cultural rather than a
religious phenomena. It is certainly not compulsory.
iii) In desert regions it has a practical value for
BOTH men, and woman as it can help protect the visage
from the elements.
iv) Most Muslim women do not wear a veil, and this
does NOT go against the Koran. In genuine Islam, men,
and women are seen as equals but they have different
roles in life. However, in certain Muslim countries
the female is treated as being inferior. This is
contrary to Islam.
v)The notion that seeing a womans face without
covering can inflame passion is absurd. In many
respects, it can be seen as an insult to men as it
implies that he has little, or no control over his
sexual desires either in thought, or deed.
I think we need to draw a veil over this matter.
WINDSOR.
I live in Slough which is very close to Windsor, and
is in walking distance. I first found out about the
so-called "hate riots" at the dairy in the Evening
Standard which made the subject front page news.
Again, this seems to have been blown out of all
proportion, and is not as serious as we might like to
imagine. Furthermore, it has nothing to do with the
Queen allowing one of her workers to do Islamic
prayers in a special room at Windsor Castle (the first
time this has happened).
It has to be understood too that the above events
occured in Dedworth which is the poorer "quarter" of
Windsor which has a large number of working class
people. It is not Royal Windsor proper where ofcourse
you get the usual middle class, and higher class
snobs, and their ilke.
