[GJM] #7 On The Inner Structure Of TOP

Dear Bill Ellis,

Law and Order is never a problem, because  
like the minimum wage, it only affects a small 
minority of the work force or voters.  Society 
would scarcely notice if the two affected 
minorities all dropped dead.  Back to the 
original subject, as the resident radical at 
M.I.T. calls it, "the deep structure" of the 
economy that is known by a few and 
discussed by none.  I knew a few in the 1950s 
and nothing has changed since then, except 
I have grown old looking for some one who 
cares enough to share my understanding of 
that "deep structure," and perchance, improve 
my understanding of it.

You wrote, Bill: "We can act as if we belonged

I have always belied that we do belong to 
GAIA.  Whether we act that way or not, is 
a measure of inability to resist brainwashing.

I have fixed two minor omissions on Fig. 
17e without changing the revision level.  

1, The whole body of capital assets (The 
private sector + the physical plant of 
government + our private property) is 
made of and built on Gaia (the Planet).

2, See the scale; 0%, 50%, to 100% which 
was mentioned in post #6, on 1 Oct 2006, 
but not included on Fig. 17e.gif with #6.

I am getting tired of explaining the obvious 
to the Shylocks, who intend the destruction 
of the United States and its founding principles 
and institutions.  Today's post by Rodney 
Shakespeare to Martin Hattersley on the 
Discussion Forum for Global Justice may 
indicate the turning of the tide in our public 
debate on economic policy.  Rodney writes:

developing within moderate Islam -- and 
will soon develop elsewhere -- if it is given 
proper support.  It is highly relevant, 
politically and economically acceptable,  
practical and large-scale.   A glimpse of

NB This new thinking is most certainly 
not what is usually described as Islamic 
Banking or Islamic Finance.

It is this last sentence that gives me hope 
for the restoration of the Laws Of Nature 
And Of Nature's God to our public dialog.

In my view this whole thread is missing a 
dimension or two.  "Law and Order" is a 
too narrow view of evil.  And the spectrum 
from TOP to TWP leaves out many other options.

Law and order, as the lead in to the 
TV program implies, is two function 
of humans in society.  People write 
and pass the laws and people enforce 
the laws they pass.  Not all laws are 
good and not all enforcement is good.  
Most of us agree that the laws 
enforcing slavery in the USA were evil.  
I would argue that the laws limiting 
stem cell research are evil.  They 
preven a lot of good from happening.  
Others could list other laws that 
promote evil.

The TOP to TWP is not top to toe.  
There are many forces outside this 
narrow spectrum that control our 
life styles.  Religion might be a prime 
example.  The laws of the Taliban 
were based on religion.  Some would 
argue, and do, that the laws of the 
USA were based on religion.  
Others wish they were, and are trying 
to make it so.

Others, and I would call myself one,  
believe that knowledge of nature 
revealed by science tells us what 
can and cannot work.  The laws of 
gravity guide us in what can and 
cannot work physically.  Chaos, 
complexity and Gaian theories imply 
that the cosmos is one and that it is 
a holon (a whole system) composed 
of sub holons and sub sub holons  
It is holons all the way up and all the 
way down.  And these holons are 
tightly interlocked and interdependent.  
No part can change, or do anything, 
without it affection the whole network 
of network of holons.

It is a mindset or world view based on  
power of scientific knowledge that can 
combat, if not cure, "evilness."  Even 
before we know all the laws of nature, 
which we probably never will.  We can 
think and act as if we were part of 
nature.  We can act as if we belonged 
to  Gaia (the Earth and all of it life forms).   

We can love our neighbors, all life, and 
the Earth itself, as ourselves.  We can 
devote our lives to the good of all.    
Then is will not be a case of looking to 
Law and Order. 

  It will be a case of individual responsiblity 
regardless of law and order --  they will follow.

As one Gaian scientist put it our moral 
imperative should be:

  “Make all personal decision based on 
whatever promotes the health, competence 
and adaptive flexibility of oneself and 
of all the positive larger holons of which 
one is a part.”
