Robert,

I do not think it is surprising that you and other GJM members should receive an invitation to the Syrian Banking Conference.

  The essence of the April 2006 Harvard conference (title --  Integrating Islamic Finance into the Mainstream) was a crowing about how the existing system has come to integrate, and prevail over, everything  else.  At Harvard I was the only person (and that includes Muslims) to uphold anything different/new.  

So now  everybody, including GJM members, is now being  told that they have lost the battle for anything new. I think it likely that the you-have-been-defeated message is being put out as a (at the moment, discreet) way of saying "You have lost, buddy, and we know who you are..........."
