India slams Pak remark over blasts
----------------------------------------------------
              PRESS STATEMENT

At the time when hundreds of people have died in
the Bombay serial bomb blasts, and the country is
passing through the most crucial phase, the Pakistan
Foreign Minister Mr Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri's
statement in America, linking the unresolved Kashmir
issue to these most feindish terrorist activities is
most condemnable. His sneseless attempt to establish a
relation between two issues is not only preposterous,
but smacks of the deeper designs of Pakistan behind
terrorism in India. The ugliest part of Mr. Kasoori's
remarks is that it has come at a moment when both
countries are making renewed efforts to normalise
relations and eliminate the irritants between them.

I will appreciate the Pakistan Foreign Minister
who is currently on American soil to declare that the
root cause of terrorism -at least the one affecting
the West - is the American invasion of Afghanistan and
Iraq and the brutalities being committed there by the
US- British forces. If Mr. Kasoori can gather so much
courage to speak out the reality , the world,
especially the Muslims will acclaim him as a man of
integrity, forthrightness and believer in Quranic
values of truthfulness.

India slams Pak remark over blasts

Press Trust of India

New Delhi, July 12, 2006
Deal with extremism by resolving J&K issue: Pak »

Lashing out at Pakistan for seeking to link Kashmir
issue to the "blatant and inhuman" bomb attacks in
Mumbai, India on Wednesday asked it to fulfil urgently
its "solemn commitments" to dismantle terror
infrastructure in that country and join hands with New
Delhi in eliminating the scourge.

Terming as "appalling" Pakistan Foreign Minister
Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri's remarks that the "best way
of tackling extremism in South Asia" is to tackle
"real issues" like Kashmir, New Delhi asked Islamabad
to act against "individuals and groups" responsible
for terrorism.

"Terrorism can't be tolerated on any ground whatsoever
and no cause justifies murder of innocent people,"
External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna told
reporters in New Delhi.

Reacting to the remarks attributed to Kasuri who is
currently in the US, Sarna said, "We find it
appalling" that Kasuri should "seek to link the
blatant and inhuman act of terrorism against innocent
men, women and children to so-called lack of
resolution of disputes between India and Pakistan."

The spokesman said Kasuri's remarks "appeared to
suggest that Pakistan will co-operate with India
against the scourge of cross border terrorism only if
so called disputes are resolved."

India hopes Pakistan government rejects such linkage
and "joins hand with India to defeat the forces of
terrorism based on ideology of extremism and
violence," he said.
