Dear All,

      In the current issue of the Eastern Voice for
British Asians  there is reference to the Indian
government having  debt forgiveness for certain
workers who have fallen into the trap of usury. An
estimated 2,500, or perhaps even up to 18,0OO of them
have committed suicide if I recall rightly. This is
due to their inability to pay their debts. 

Furthermore, interest free loans have been introduced
to help the above situation. It is assumed that such
funds come from the World Bank. This aid is also meant
to help people with their work, and offer training for
alternative forms of self-employment so that they can
survive.
